The MODEL 60n is the Marantz integrated that already has HEOS streaming, HDMI ARC and a phono stage on board; the CD 60 is its disc-spinning partner with the same HDAM signature and a toroidal power supply; the Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3 is the 600 Series standmount with enough cabinet to fill a real living room. This set puts all three in matching Marantz finishes and one price.

Marantz MODEL 60n

The MODEL 60n is an integrated amplifier with the streaming built in: 60 W per channel into 8 Ω, HDAM circuitry in the analogue path, HEOS on the network side and an HDMI ARC input for the television. An MM phono stage, coaxial, optical and USB-A inputs and a pre-out plus subwoofer output cover the rest of the system.

The CD player

Marantz CD 60

The CD 60 pairs HDAM and HDAM-SA2 output circuitry with a dual power supply, and plays hi-res PCM up to 192 kHz/24-bit and DSD up to 5.6 MHz from the front USB-A socket. Two selectable digital filters let you choose between a softer or a sharper roll-off, and the headphone amplifier has three gain settings.

Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3

The 606 S3 is the larger 600 Series standmount: the same 25 mm Titanium Dome tweeter, but a 165 mm Continuum cone in a bigger vented cabinet. Sensitivity rises to 88 dB and the recommended amplifier window widens to 120 W. It is the pair to choose when the room is more than a desk or a shelf.

Setting it up

  1. Give each box its own shelf — both are 442 mm wide and the MODEL 60n is 431 mm deep, so measure the rack first.
  2. Connect the CD 60 to a line input on the MODEL 60n with RCA, or use its coaxial output into the amplifier's digital input.
  3. Run speaker cable to the 606 S3 pair. If you are bi-wiring, remove the terminal links; otherwise leave them fitted.
  4. Connect the television to the HDMI ARC input and a moving magnet turntable to the phono input.
  5. Join the MODEL 60n to Wi-Fi or Ethernet and finish setup in the HEOS app.

Questions

Do I need a streamer as well?

No. The MODEL 60n has HEOS built in, with AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Bluetooth and Roon Ready, so the network side is covered.

Why a CD player if the amplifier streams?

Because the disc collection stays playable and the CD 60 also reads hi-res PCM and DSD files from USB. It is the one source that does not depend on a subscription.

Is 60 W enough for the 606 S3?

Yes. Bowers & Wilkins recommends 30 – 120 W into 8 Ω for the 606 S3, and the MODEL 60n gives 60 W per channel into that load, 80 W into 4 Ω.

Can I bi-wire the speakers?

The 606 S3 has two terminal pairs per speaker, so bi-wiring or bi-amping is possible. Leave the supplied links in place if you run a single cable.

Will the television work with this system?

Yes, over the HDMI ARC input on the MODEL 60n — one cable from the TV's ARC socket carries the sound back to the amplifier.

Do the speakers need stands?

They perform best with the tweeter near ear height and the rear Flowport clear of the wall, so stands or a deep shelf are worth planning for.

Can I add a subwoofer?

Yes. The MODEL 60n has a mono subwoofer pre-out as well as a full stereo pre-out.
